The World Of Peter Rabbit & Friends – The Tale Of Two Bad Mice & Johnny Town-Mouse
In this episode of The World Of Peter Rabbit and Friends, the stories of The Tale Of Two Bad Mice and the Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse are combined into one very cute story!
The Tale Of Johnny Town-Mouse Summary
In this very cute Beatrix Potter bedtime story we are introduced to a little country mouse by the name of Timmy Willie. One day Timmy Willie falls asleep in a vegetable hamper that is going into the city to deliver vegetables. When he wakes up he is really scared and he scrambles out of the basket giving the poor cook a huge fright!
Timmy Willie runs as fast as he can along the skirting board and finds a little hole that he squeezes through. He falls down about half a foot and suddenly crashes into the middle of a mouse dinner party.
The host of the party, Johnny Town-Mouse introduces himself and makes poor Timmy Willie feel at home. Timmie Willie does his best to make friends and fit in with the other mice but he is scared of the cook and the cat and the food makes him feel sick. He misses his home terribly!
One day Johnny tells Timmie that he can easily go home whenever he wants to when the vegetable hamper goes back to the country for a collection. Timmy jumps at the opportunity to go home but before leaving he asks Johnny the Town-Mouse to come and visit him.
When spring arrives, Johhny takes Timmy up on his invitation and comes to the country for a visit. However, Johnny soon finds that he doesn’t like living out in the country and before long he returns to his home in the city saying that the country life is far too quiet for him!
Conclusion
Just like Beatrix Potter’s previous book, The Tale of Mr. Tod, The Tale Of Johnny Town-Mouse is a very cute kid’s bedtime story that explores how people have specific preferences and habits that make them happy.
At the end of the tale, Beatrix Potter asks her young readers whether they prefer living in the city or in the country saying that, just like Timmy Willie, she prefers the country. Download The Tale Of Johnny Town-Mouse PDF book here.
